Out of all the types of the abuse that exist, emotional abuse is the most commonly known and the most commonly overlooked. Emotional abuse is hard to detect because unlike the other abuses, this kind is suddle, not easily seen. A person can only detect that someone is being emotionally abused by listening or noticing any symptoms that arised from this abuse. Emotional abuse is used to make the targeted victim feel powerless. The bully is emotionally abusing the target simply to gain power and control. What people are not aware of is that there are up to four kinds of emotional abuse that exist: rejecting, degrading, terrorizing, and isolating.
The first emotional abuse, rejecting, consist of the neglect of someones feelings. The abuser does not acknowledge the victim's presence, feelings, or value. By rejecting the victim, the victim feels inferior from others. Their thoughts and what they feel seem to become useless and devalued to themselves. The next kind of emotional abuse is degrading, which is the typical case of bullying. The victim is constantly ridiculed, insulted, harassed, taunted, and mocked. These actions affect the target by making him or her feel worthless. The target loses all diginity that they once possessed. Another form of emotional abuse is terrorizing. Terrorizing helps the abuser gain complete control over the victim by keeping their victim in complete fear of them. The bully often uses verbal threats to keep their victim in fear of them and tend to come off as intimidating to the victim. The last kind of emotional abuse is isolating which is commonly seen in relationships between a couple. The alpha of an emotional abuse relationship that keeps his or her partner isolated often cuts off any contact that his or her partner may have with any outsiders. They are limited with their freedom and are confined to a certain space. Emotional abuse comes in many forms and can easily be detected if learned about. It should be taken seriously and never be overlooked by anyone.

I think there is emotional abuse everywhere, at home, at school, and at work. People do it everyday just by laughing at someone who fell down or dropped their books in the hallway. It's not considered abuse to most people because there is no physical action being done. But still, I think what you wrote is absolutely true. It should be taken seriously, because not only does it lower self value and respect but it effects everyone else. It hurts everybody, not just one person.
ReplyDeleteJust walking through the halls of school you can see how emotional abuse affects peoples lives. Even though some people may not mean it many people are affected by one another's actions and it shows in everything they do such as school work, physical self esteem, and their persona. We need to step up and try to stop this abuse before it leads a horrible outcome. If one person can just step up and take a stand then maybe everybody else can and our environment will be a better place. Good Jo
ReplyDeleteWhat you said is definitely true. This type of abuse is taken so lightly because no one ever really knows what someone else is feeling. However, that doesn’t mean that the person is not going to be insulted. We have all been through that type of experience where something has happened to us and we were made fun of for it. We get embarrassed and sometimes it lowers our self-esteem. Not only can if affect our emotions but how we handle our family, work, school, or social life. This can lead to a lot of different outcomes. Everyone handles things differently and a lot of emotional abuse can lead to other painful things such as suicide. We all have to learn to treat each other with respect and love because that can make a big difference on someone’s confidence. We have to treat others the way we would like to be treated.
ReplyDeleteKelsey this is soo good! It is true that emotional abuse is a serious issue and there are so many things in a persons life that can cause it. Whether it be school, work, family, friends, or a boyfriend or girlfriend, emotional problems can do alot of damage and can lead to something bad, such as suicide or other types of abuse. Even though emotional abuse can be hard to detect because everyone is different, simply asking someone what is wrong or asking them if they want to talk can mean the world to a person.
